Mission

Health Options Institute is a professional massage school dedicated to helping people to connect through the power of touch to the presence of the Living God within themselves and within all other living beings. We strive for the highest degree of integrity, magnificence, and breadth possible.  We do this through the scope of our program, our in-depth curriculum, and our very special instructors.  We want to facilitate students to develop competency by teaching them many diversified types of bodywork with a holistic perspective and by empowering them through exposure to a broad base of knowledge from several different fields. We seek to develop our students’ fullest potentials to become extremely proficient and professionally successful massage therapists.  We endeavor to have 100% of our students joyfully employed, doing the work of their dreams, bringing healing to themselves and to others as they step forth in fulfillment in their new careers expressing their talents in massage therapy. School Overview

The school is highly recognized for its excellent holistic program, which is comprehensive, thorough, and in the forefront of professional massage training.  It also has exceptional teaching staff that are extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and motivating to the students.  Students appreciate and love the teaching staff and the relaxed, yet professional, atmosphere that the school has. Our teachers know how to make the educational experience fun.  The school also has received much recognition from many well satisfied employers of our students and their clients.  The school was founded in 1984, being one of the first schools to be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools to give massage training.  Upon graduation, students are well equipped to handle a variety of clinical complaints and to work in a wide variety of massage settings for a lifetime.  The Institute is unique in that students can begin practicing massage after completion of their first sixteen weeks of schooling, whether or not they choose to complete the full 637 hour Massage Therapy Program.

Deep Muscle Massage Program Overview

In the 130 hour Deep Muscle Massage Program, the students will learn one excellent massage routine and stretching for the entire body, and holistic principles that will enable him or her to begin a professional career in massage. The student will additionally study Aromatherapy and get to work in the student clinic. The Deep Muscle Massage Program is the first part of the larger program.  It takes five or more months to complete, depending on whether holidays fall within the program.

Massage Therapy Program Overview

The school has a 637 hour training program in Massage Therapy.  Students will receive a diploma on completion of this program.  Additionally, thirteen certificates of completion are awarded for various subjects taken within the program.  These certificates of completion are in Deep Muscle Massage, CPR and AED, Shiatsu, Meridian Dynamics, Reflexology, Nutrition and Herbs, Scentsational Aromatherapy, Professional Practice Concepts, Practice Procedures and Policies, Client Communication Skills, Orthopedic Neuromuscular Therapy, Sports Massage: American/European and Sports Massage: Russian/American.  During this program the student will have the opportunity to gain experience by working in the supervised student clinic on members of the general population.  Additionally, the student will learn 8 entirely different bodywork routines for the body which can be integrated together and customized for the individual client.  This program is for the really serious student who would like to have a lifetime professional career in massage and excellent employment opportunities as well as a smorgasbord of techniques and modalities to choose from.  Should a student wish to take the first 130 hours of this program, to see if he/she likes it before committing further, this is an excellent option. It takes 14 to 22 months to complete the 637 hour program, depending on the student’s choice of schedule.   

National Certification Exam

Upon completion of the 637 hour program, students are well prepared to take the National Certification Exam.  This is an optional certification. Students are well prepared to take this exam upon graduation due to the breadth of our program.  

Additional Program Overview Information

Both the 637 hour Massage Therapy Program and the Deep Muscle Massage Program are offered on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.  The school can customize a flexible program to meet your personal schedule.  If you miss a class, it is often possible to take the same class later the same week!

Both as part of the 637 hour program and in addition to it, the school offers a number of continuing education courses in complementing bodywork modalities and adjunct skills so that the student has a broad base.  The more knowledge the student has the wider range of clientele she/he will be able to accept.  Presently Seated Chair Massage, Reflexology, Shiatsu, Meridian Dynamics, Professional Practice Concepts, Practice Procedures and Policies, Client Communication Skills, Aromatherapy, Advanced Aromatherapy, Nutrition and Herbs, CPR and AED, Lomi Lomi Temple Style Bodywork (Modules I - IV), Therapeutic Touch, Polarity, Orthopedic Neuromuscular Therapy (Levels 1-4), Spa Basics, Hot Stone Massage, Lypossage (body contouring), and Lymphatic Drainage Therapy are offered.  Note that many of theses courses are part of the 637 hour curriculum.  Those that are not part of the curriculum may be taken either concurrently while the student is in the program or on completion of the 637 hour program.  The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) approves Health Options Institute as a continuing education provider.

Continuing Education Credit for Nurses

The Deep Muscle Massage program has been approved for 108.5 contact hours for nurses.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the American Holistic Nurses Association, an accredited Approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Facilities and Equipment

The Institute is located in a beautiful and spacious historic building that has four large classrooms, two clinic rooms in which students massage clients from the general public, dressing rooms, a library/study with computer and internet access, a kitchen/student lounge, a vending machine, a bookstore/reception area, an admissions office, administrative areas, and ample onsite parking. The library/study is open every Monday through Thursday, 8:30 am to 9 pm, and most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 9 am to 4 pm. To facilitate learning, the school provides all equipment needed such as massage tables for use during classes. Additionally it has numerous life size painted skeletons, numerous smaller skeletons for clay sculpting of muscles, anatomical and trigger point charts, overhead projectors, slide projectors, and a VCR/DVD player. All supplies a student needs for his/her education can be purchased on the premises in our student bookstore, including DVD's and videos of many of the techniques we teach. We carry a wide selection of Aromatherapy products, massage crèmes, anatomy charts, and massage tables.

Location                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                The Institute’s location in Bethlehem Township is close to Routes 22, 33, and 78.  It is an easy drive from Quakertown, Stroudsburg, Phillipsburg, and New Hope. There is ample on-site parking.

Job Placement

The institute has lifetime job placement services available free of charge to those students who have a need for these services. Statistics from our most recent annual survey of graduates indicates a 100% rate of employment for graduates of our Massage Therapy Program. The institute does not guarantee employment.
